On the request of the Municipality of Prato, Prato Textile Museum invited a large number of museums from towns and cities of the ACTE network to join a project workgroup.
The first players to accept the invitation were the Central Museum of Textile in Lodz, Poland, the Musée d’art et d’industrie in Roubaix, France, the Centre Touristique de la Laine et de la Mode in Verviers, Belgium, and Centre de documentaciò i Museu Tèxtil in Terrassa, Catalonia, all of whom are historically representative centres of textile production and important players in the present industrial scenario.
The Musée des Tissus et des Arts décoratifs de Lyon in Lyons, France - a real and proper centre of excellence and a paradigm of reference in the panorama of European textile museums - has also been invited to participate in the project.
Other players interested in participating in the project include the territories of Schio in Italy and Sabadell in Spain. Even though these two areas do not yet have real and proper textile museums, they are nevertheless extremely aware of the importance of conserving evidence of their local textile industries (such as, for example, by the conservation of corporate archives).
Obviously it is hoped that the number of the participants in the still fledgling Textile Museums Network will continue to increase.
